Questions people ask
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No, and that is the main reason to use this one. The file is read and processed by your own browser using the canvas API. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works, which is a test worth running if you handle anything under embargo.
What size should an OG image be?
1200 by 630 pixels. That is the ratio Facebook, LinkedIn and X all crop to, and it is the preset here. Anything smaller than 600 wide tends to be rendered as a small square thumbnail instead of a wide card.
WebP or JPEG?
WebP for anything on your own site: it is meaningfully smaller at the same visual quality and every current browser supports it. JPEG if the file is going somewhere you do not control, such as a directory submission form or an email.
Why does my resized image look soft in other tools?
Because most resize in a single step, and browsers sample rather than average when they do that. Halving repeatedly until close to the target preserves far more detail, which is what happens here.
