Questions people ask
How many characters is a tweet?
280 for a standard X post. Links count as a fixed length regardless of the real URL, and that allowance has changed more than once, so treat the counter as a guide for the text you control.
How many characters should a meta description be?
Around 155 is the usual advice, but the real limit is pixel width, not characters. Google cuts at roughly 960 pixels on desktop. A description of narrow letters fits more than one of wide capitals. Our SERP preview measures the actual string.
Does the counter include spaces?
Both figures are shown. Most platform limits count spaces, so the plain character count is the one to compare against a cap.
